The Printing Press

Up until the printing press was invented, documents had to be recopied which was extremely slow and meant that a limited amount of copies could be produced. The printing press made this process go a lot faster and increased the amount of documents could be made. This caused the spreading of ideas across Europe and one person, Martin Luther used this to his advantage by creating things, such as pampphlets to get his point across about the church. He also used the press to create the 95 theses which was the start of the Reformation and when things started to change. If the printing press didn't exist, the protestant religion would not have been created and Luther wouldn't have such a huge impact on Europe.

The Huguenots

The Huguenots were those who followed Calvinism and some were forced to flee from France to other countries in order to practice their religion. For example, the Bartholomew Massacre occured because of a mixed marriage meaning a protestant and a catholic. There was a one day slaughter of protestants all over France. The cause of the huguenots was that there was lutherans coming into France and the effect was that after the wars they gained independance from the Roman Catholic Church.

The Church of England

The cause of the change in the church was that King Henry needed to get rid of certain people in order to get what he wanted and because of that, the church became protestant and the king became the head of the church rather than the pope.

The Catholic Reformation

The cause of the catholic reformation was that Martin Luther became aware of problems and things that were wrong with the roman catholic church and with the 95 theses it showed the church that he knew how wrong they were treating the people. The effect of the reformation is that it sparked a new era of religion including Lutheran, with was started by Martin Luther himself, and Calvinism, which is a branch off of lutheran in France. Without the reformation we would all be catholics and wouldn't have the freedom of religion like today.

Attainment of Salvation

Matin Luther believed that in order to get salvation, all you needed was faith and faith alone. However, the pope believed you needed faith but also by buying indulgences. The cause of the conflict of how you recieve salvation was Martin Luther, the pope, indulgences and faith and the effects of it was either way, the main hope was to pass purgetory and get into heaven.

Religion=Conflict?

How can something as peaceful as religion cause so much conflict? Many people, like Luther and the pope have religous differences that ended up causing a lot of problems. Religous extremists and for example atheists have their own views on god and this may not always be peaceful.
