Signed in 1598 by King Henry the 4th, The Edict of Nantes granted the Calvinist Protestants of France substantial rights in the nation which was a sign of relgious peace. The cause of this edict was that King Henry was tired of religious wars and their cost and effects, so when making this, he was hopeful that it would end the conflict. The effects of it was that it gave protestants almost complete religious freedoms and ended the religious wars.
