John Knox taught protestant theology at St. Andrews Castle and is considered to be the greatest reformer in the history of Scotland. After being kidnapped by the French warships and being released 19 months later, he went to England to preach promoting the Reformation. The cause of this was that he preached to protestants who took over St. Andrews Castle and the effect is that he became the main leader in the change of the Scotish religion.
